Admission to Teacher Education Requirements

Completion of an Admission to Teacher Education Orientation is required for all students seeking certification, including those who did not attend an orientation in EDU 180 or its equivalent and transfer students who have not taken EDU 180 or its equivalent at 杏吧直播间 State. Transfer students need to attend an admission to Teacher Education Orientation as soon as possible after enrolling at 杏吧直播间 State. If you are not sure if you have completed this orientation, please email TES at msu.teachereducationservices@murraystate.edu

Have earned an overall undergraduate GPA of 2.75 on a 4.0 scale at the point of admission.
This 2.75 minimum GPA remains a requirement throughout the teacher certification program. -
Have completed a minimum of 24 credit hours with a minimum 2.75 GPA to include the following coursework:

ENG 101, 102, 105, or ENG 150 with a 鈥淏鈥 or higher,

MAT 117 (or higher level math) with a 鈥淏鈥 or higher,
-
COM 161 or HON 165 with a 鈥淏鈥 or higher,
-
EDU 180 or equivalent with a 鈥淏鈥 or higher (or ELE 605 for IECE graduate students or LIB 600 for Library Science graduate students)

An interview with major academic advisor or chair.

Complete a review of the Professional Code of Ethics for Kentucky School Personnel and Declaration of Eligibility, signed by the candidate affirming a commitment to upholding the code and acknowledging awareness of information required for state certification. This item is turned in during an admission to teacher education orientation. However, if answers given on the Declaration of Eligibility change during the time of participation in the teacher education program, the Director of Teacher Education Services must be notified immediately.

ACT Composite of 22 or higher

or use individual ACT scores of ACT Reading 20, ACT English 18, ACT Math 19

or use individual CASE (#5713, 5723, 5733) scores of Reading* 150, CASE Writing* 158, CASE Math* 144

or a combination of ACT and CASE (#5713, 5723, 5733) scores as follows:
ACT Reading 20, ACT English 18, ACT Math 19 in combination with CASE Reading* 150, CASE Writing* 158, CASE Math* 144 -
or if Overall GPA is 3.0 or higher, can accept CASE (#5713, 5723, 5733) scores as follows:
CASE Reading* 145 or higher, CASE Writing* 153 or higher, CASE Math* 139 or higher-
ACT and CASE scores must be official scores sent directly from the testing company to 杏吧直播间 State University. Test scores cannot be over 10 years old. On Campus and/or Residual ACT scores cannot be accepted.

If you need to schedule to take/retake the CASE please refer to the . As per ETS, "Some test centers are requiring proof of vaccination or a negative COVID-19 test within a specific timeframe before testing, for entrance to the test center. Be sure to check with your local test center for a complete list of health and safety procedures required for admission to the test center."

When registering to take the Praxis Core Academic Skills Test for Educators (CASE) please remember to use the correct test codes; 杏吧直播间 State University is 1494 and the KY EPSB code is 7283.
ACT scores must be sent to 1532 (MSU). -

Students should be advised that Teacher Certification requirements are subject to change. Before registering for the test(s) please refer to the for current requirements. You may contact EPSB at 502.564.4606 or 888.598.7667 to obtain current requirements.

When all of the above requirements have been met, the formal application can be submitted, accompanied by all required documentation. This includes an official score report for the assessment requirement (Praxis Core Academic Skills for Educators (CASE) and/or ACT), if applicable, and a transcript showing all college work to date.
Orientation Information
If you are taking EDU 180, HUM 180, or MUS 180 this fall (Fall 2024), you do not need to register for one of the online orientations below. You will complete the orientation through your EDU 180 course. Registration will close 2 days prior to the orientation date.

- 1-2 days before the orientation you registered for, you will receive a Canvas notification of the course. You cannot access the materials in the course until 8 am the day of the orientation.
- At 8 am on the morning of the orientation, you will receive an email from TES at as a reminder to start the Canvas course.
- You must complete the orientation by 11:59 pm that day.
- You should allow for 2.5 - 3 hours to complete the orientation.
- You will need access to a printer. If you know you will not have access to a printer, you can pick up a copy of the Declaration of Eligibility from the TES Office at 2101 Alexander Hall prior to the orientation.
- Assistance for the orientation is only available Monday through Friday, from 8 am to 3:30 pm.
Graduate Initial Certification IECE and Library Media students complete a different orientation. It is a combined admission to teacher education and student teaching orientation.

Application for Teacher Education
Applications are only started while attending an admission to teacher education orientation. You should not start an application on your own. Doing so will result in an invalid application which will be deleted.

NOTE: Students who have not been admitted to Teacher Education will not be eligible to enroll in upper level courses that specify admission to teacher education is a prerequisite.
